Ryan, Hedderman and Donovan win world titles in Canada

Hospital Handball Club is celebrating after club members brought back three gold and two silver medals from the World Handball Championships in Calgary, Canada. Representing Ireland at the Championships were Paul Hedderman, John Ryan, Kieran Burke, Tomas Donegan and Michael and Paddy Donovan, and at the end of a hectic two weeks of handball against the best players in the world Paul Hedderman had won two gold medals and Michael Donovan brought home one gold. Michael’s father, Paddy Donovan, partnered Galbally’s Thomas Donegan to silver medal success, and those medals might have been gold if misfortune hadn’t struck Thomas when he tore his Achilles tendon and the duo had to forfeit the final, even though they had been well ahead when injury struck. The club is planning a celebration at a date to be announced.
