SAIL AGAINST CANCER RAISES €20,000

A fundraising drive including a two-month sail around the coast of Ireland has raised a whopping €20,000 for the fight against cancer. A series of events were held to coincide with the sail including a bumper raffle, for which the draw will take place this Saturday evening.

Chris Egan from Coolcappa and Dave Bevan from Bruff, who are both cancer sufferers, set off accompanied by Gerard Hutton on their voyage, Sail Against Cancer, in early May from Foynes and returned having completed the voyage around the coast in late June.

The voyage will be celebrated this Saturday at 9p.m. in Foynes Yacht Club when the men will conduct a draw for prizes of a sun holiday and two hotel breaks. The money raised will be divided equally between the Irish Cancer Society, the Mid-West Cancer Foundation and R.N.L.I.

Admission to Saturday evening’s event is free, everybody is welcome and music on the evening will be provided by Kevin McCarthy.
