On Sunday, 22nd September, Seán Jefferies from Mallow took part in the 2019 Cork Women’s Mini Marathon to raise funds for Edel House, a charity based in Cork city which provides emergency accommodation to women and children, and promotes the empowerment of the women to find and maintain a new independent life in their future home.
As a Mallow-based wedding photographer, Seán chose to fundraise by taking part in the mini marathon dressed in his wife’s wedding dress. This idea came to him when he thought about how could he show his future brides how he understands the joys and tribulations of wearing a wedding dress. He also had the support of a number of bridesmaids, his wife Sheila, and a friend, Elaine Finn from Midleton, who joined him on the day in their beautiful white tutus.
In the course of fundraising, Seán approached the North Cork Business Alliance in Mallow, of which he is a longstanding and active member, and asked if they would be willing to support him in his fundraising endeavours. Very generously, they agreed to support him to the tune of €500, which, when added to the funds personally raised by Seán via a GoFundMe account and cash donations, raised almost €1,700 for the charity.
Seán would like to personally thank all of those who donated to his fundraiser, as, without their support, this would not have been such a successful event. However, Seán is already planning for 2020 when he plans to carry out something far bigger and better for next year’s Cork Women’s Mini Marathon.
