SEAN TAKES TOP EU POST

Minister of State Seán Sherlock this week took on a major responsibility, chairing the EU Com-petitiveness Council, a grouping with a budget of €600 million which could have a spin-off benefit for research and development in Cork city and county. He is the first person from North Cork to hold an EU presidency chair position, and he told the Mallow Star that research and development is the way forward for creating jobs and he hopes that his work as chairman of the research section of the Compet-itiveness Council will lead to the creation of jobs in the region.
