Shanagolden Post Office Re-opens

Minister Patrick O’Donovan, TD, cuts the ribbon, watched by the Roche family, Minister Niall Collins, TD and a group of well wishers at Shanagolden Post Office re-opening.

A little over two months after it “permanently closed,” Shanagolden Post Office has reopened. The new facility accepted its first customers on Friday.
In early September, the local community was surprised that the PO was to close in such a sudden fashion. There had been speculation that the existing Postmaster would continue but this never transpired and instead customers were advised to use the likes of nearby offices such as Askeaton, Foynes, Rathkeale and Newcastle West.
However, An Post appeared keen to continue with a presence in the village and a prominent local business family stepped in to fill the void at the weekend. There had also been strong political pressure on the issue. “The reopening of Shanagolden Post Office was a really proud day for the entire parish,” commented Minister of State Patrick O’Donovan.
A spokesperson for An Post told the Weekly Observer on Monday: “An Post are very happy that the new Shanagolden Post Office has opened and we would like to wish incoming Postmaster Sinead Roche and her team all the very best for the future.”
An Post has a network of 46 offices across Limerick city and county.
