Minister for Research and Innovation, Seán Sherlock has welcomed confirmation that President Michael D Higgins will officially unveil the statue of Thomas Davis this December in Mallow.

“I am delighted that An tUachtarán will be at hand this December 11th to unveil the statue of Thomas Davis,” said Minister Sherlock. “It is fitting that in the year celebrating the bi-centenary of one of Ireland’s greatest patriots that we have our President in Mallow to officially unveil this monument to him that will tie together the new streetscape. I want to pay tribute to the work being done on this celebration by the Mallow Development Partnership which has already seen significant national events take place in Glasnevin Cemetery and Mount Jerome Cemetery in Dublin, along with an official reception by the Lord Mayor of Dublin recently.

“I am looking forward to the event this December and know that it will be a great day to show the very best of Mallow’s past and the bright future it has ahead.”
