Silver Radio Award for Katie in New York

Katie Holly, Silver Radio Award winner at the New York Festivals International Radio Awards.

Katie Holly from Charle-ville was among the winners at the prestigious New York Festival International Radio Awards when her play ‘Sharon’ won the Silver Radio Award for Best Digital Drama Programme. RTÉ took home an impressive six gold trophies, ten silver, three bronze and eight finalist certificates at the awards, and was named Broad-caster of the Year 2019 for the third year in a row.
Katie’s play tells the story of Sharon, who, after a decade of living it up, returns to her mother, her roots and her home town. She gets a job in the local bar and soon finds herself being drawn into the social conventions of settling down, getting married and having a baby. The play was featured last November on the RTE Radio ‘Drama on One’ series of plays by women writers marking the centenary of women’s right to vote in Ireland, and was a critical success.
Katie was among the first cohort of students to graduate in Drama and Theatre Studies from UCC in 2004, and she went on to complete a Master’s degree in Irish Literature. She was a member of Shoestring Theatre before deciding to swap acting for writing, where she soon found success. Her first play, ‘Marion’, premiered at the 2016 Cork Mid-summer Festival and went on to tour festivals and venues around the country, and she followed this with ‘Sharon’, which also had its premiere at Cork Midsummer Festival and also played at the West Cork Fit-Up Festival and the Blackwater Valley Fit-Up Festival.offensive ….
