Sonia signs up for Charleville Half-Marathon

Olympic silver medallist Sonia O’Sullivan and ‘Love Hate’ star Jason Barry are just two of the big names announced as participants in this year’s Charleville International Half-Marathon, which will take place on Sunday 20th September. The race is just five years old but has already gained a top reputation for its flat, fast course, and the fact that club and recreational runners get the chance to take part in a race with top national and international athletes. Last year’s race was very exciting for spectators, with Martin Fagin winning the men’s event while Maria McCambridge won the women’s. Even if you’re not planning to take part you should definitely come out to see the action. Sonia will be a big attraction for spectators, as will Jason Barry, who played the role of IRA man Dano in ‘Love Hate’ and also had roles in ‘Titanic’ and ‘Sons of Anarchy’.

For those who want to run, but haven’t entered yet, a cheaper entry fee is available up to Monday next, after which time the fee will go up, so get your entry in as soon as possible. A large portion of the money raised by the race will go to St Joseph’s Foundation, with the rest being used for the development of athletics facilities in the region.
