It’s a sure sign that the summer is starting to slip away when the schools open to hand out the results of the Leaving Certificate, and Mallow’s three secondary schools were open from early yesterday to meet students and give them the envelopes containing their results. Principals and teachers met with the incoming students to wish them well, and the general feeling was one of happiness and satisfaction with the marks achieved in the exams.
At the Patrician Academy, Principal Catherine Fitzpatrick said she was very happy with the results achieved by the 72 students who sat the exams this year. “Results across the board were very good, and about 19% got over 500 points,” she revealed, “and I would like to wish them all every success for the future.” Top scorer in the Academy with 605 points was Padraig Buckley who showed that he is not only a very talented sportsman, but also a hard worker in school. The results handed out, the school is now preparing to welcome the new group of first years, who will pass through the gates on Monday week, 25th August.
In St Mary’s Secondary School, everyone was very happy too, and Principal Yvonne Bale was on hand to meet the returning students to hand out their results. Speaking afterwards, Ms Bale said the school was delighted with the results of the Leaving Certificate 2014. “Once again our students have excelled and I wish to take this opportunity to compliment the girls, their teachers and their parents on their hard work and success,” she said.
Across the river in Davis College a total of 92 students sat the exam, and Principal Denis Healy said they received a very successful set of results. “I am particularly pleased with the number of A1s achieved at higher level, and also the increased uptake in higher level maths,” he said, adding that he was looking forward to a large number of university places being offered across various disciplines. “This is a just reward for the huge efforts being put in by students and teachers,” he said. Davis College will re-open on Monday week, and will welcome a record number of first years, 164 in total, who will be accommodated in 7 class groups. On Tuesday, 26th August, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th classes will start, and all classes will be back on the Wednesday.
