Ulster Bank in The Market Yard, Newcastle West were the sponsors for the inaugural Lions Secondary Schools Quiz which was held in the Courtenay Lodge Hotel, Newcastle West last Thursday evening. Eleven teams participated representing Desmond College – Newcastle West, Coláiste Mhuire – Askeaton, Hazel-wood College – Drom-collogher, Scoil Mhuire agus Íde – Newcastle West. Victory in the senior grade went to Coláiste Mhuire – Askeaton while the junior grade was won by Hazelwood College – Dromcollogher. Newcastle West and District Lions Club President Berna Scanlan was loud in her praise for all the students who took part as the standard was extremely high.
The Lions Club are very grateful to James Power and all at Ulster Bank, Newcastle West for their generous sponsorship and look forward to making this an annual event for the secondary schools of west Limerick. They would also like to thank all the schools who took the time to enter teams, to the students, teachers and parents who helped to make this an enjoyable and competitive event.
