The largest group of volunteers ever turned out for the fourth Team Limerick Cleanup in Newcastle West. They were part of some 18,000+ people who took part in this iconic Good Friday event – an initiative sponsored by the J P McManus Benevolent Fund and administered by Limerick City and County Council.
In the region of 70 people of all ages joined with the local Tidy Towns committee to do a major cleanup in a number of litter trouble spots. Volunteers included members of the GAA, Residents Associations, Community Council, Chamber of Commerce, Newcastle West Development Association, Brothers of Charity Services, Hunt Office staff, public representatives and committed individuals. And all ages were noted among the volunteers.
The enthusiasm and hard work was evident as they fanned out from Desmond Complex equipped with hi-vis vests, gloves, pickers and TLC trash bags. Among the litter collected were the usual ‘suspects’: bottles. cans, cigarette packs, takeaway coffee/tea and food containers. There was also evidence of fly-tipping including bags of household trash and even electrical items such as tv’s. All of these could easily be disposed of in better ways.
We would like to thank each and everyone who participated. And we say a big thank you to Desmond Complex for welcoming us before and after the big cleanup.
Team Limerick Cleanup 4 a Huge Success
