Thomas Davis Commemoration Lecture

The annual Thomas Davis Commemoration Lecture will be delivered tomorrow Friday in St James’ Church at 8pm. During the night there will be also be a launch of the Thomas Davis 2014 Bicentenary Calendar, which will benefit local organisations, the Cope Foundation, St. Vincent De Paul, and the Thomas Davis Commemoration Society. The commemorative lecture will be given by Professor Vincent Comerford, Professor Emeritus of Modern History at NUI Maynooth. The title of his lecture is ‘The Vision of Thomas Davis’, which will address Thomas Davis, the foundation and publication of ‘The Nation’ newspaper, and the Young Ireland movement. Musical entertainment will be provided by Thomas Davis Pipe Band, a choir, and Gaelscoil Thomais Daibhis. All are welcome to attend. 2014 marks the bicentenary of the birth of Thomas Davis and a wide-ranging programme of events, including the erection of a statue, is being planned.
