Viki and Grainne to make a 10,000 feet leap of faith for Make-A-Wish Foundation

Mallow women Viki Lynch and her sister-in-law Grainne will be taking a brave leap out of an airplane at 10,000 feet to do a tandem (thankfully!) skydive to raise money for the charity Make-a-Wish Foundation. The Make-a-Wish Foundation is a charity close to their hearts as Grainne’s eight year old son Liam Lynch was diagnosed with an inoperable spinal tumour 22 months ago when he woke up one morning unable to move his legs. Up until then he was like any other 7 year old boy, running around and having fun. Their lives changed overnight, going through anyone’s worst nightmare, having a critically ill child. Liam has spent months in hospital and is now in a wheelchair, and his condition is life threatening. They are not sure what the future holds, but will keep hoping.

Liam made his First Holy Communion a couple of months ago. He is a happy boy and now loves computers. Grainne, Viki’s brother David and his little sister Maeve are always on the go, visiting people and keeping normal family life going. Make-a-Wish gave them a well-deserved break away from the memories of hospital, to Valencia in Spain to a science museum and aquatic park which Liam really enjoyed and this gives the family some great memories to cherish forever. Grainne and Viki are fundraising to make the dreams of other kids like Liam become a reality.

Make-a-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children, aged between 3 and 18 years and living with a life-threatening medical condition, to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. A wish granted is true magic for the child, providing respite from their normal routine of hospitals, doctors and treatment.

The skydive is scheduled for 19th August in Birr, Co. Offaly. If you would like to support them you can donate online at http://www.mycharity.ie/event/viki_grainne_skydive or ring Viki on 087-8196264.
