Newcastle West Darkness into Light will set off from Desmond College at 4.15am this coming Saturday morning, with participants walking/running the 5K route to raise funds for Pieta House, the non-profit organisation which provides a specialised treatment programme for people who have suicidal ideation or who self-harm. Communities all over Ireland are all too aware of the devastation which suicide causes, and support for this Saturday’s national event helps Pieta House, and also shows solidarity with families affected by suicide.
As well as the walk/run, Newcastle West Parish Church will open for adoration from 4am to 6.30am, and those who might find the walk too long are invited to call in, spend some time in adoration, light a candle, or say a prayer. Some walkers may also like to drop in to the church as they pass, or when they have completed their walk.
