Well done to the Rebelettes

Burnfort National School has a long history of being associated with talented footballers who have made their mark for their clubs, Clyda Rovers, Mourn-eabbbey Ladies Football and their county.  Each have brought honour to their clubs and parish.  For us in Burnfort N.S. none can equal the achievement of three of our past pupils in the field of dreams, that is, Croke Park, over the week-end.

The success of the Cork Senior Ladies football team, on Sunday last when they met neighbours, Kerry in the All-Ireland final was phenomenal.  It was a vic-tory to be savoured, as the Cork ladies became football queens of Ireland for the seventh time, in eight years.  None were more proud than the people of Mourneabbey as the local ladies football club had four players on the Cork panel, sisters Roísin, Ciara and Doireann O’Sullivan and their club-mate Bríd O’Sullivan.

Euphoria has swept thro-ugh Burnfort N.S. as sisters Roísin, Ciara and Doireann, three siblings of the O’Sullivan family, are past pupils of our rural school.  The girls started their football careers in Burnfort N.S. playing with ladies school team and mixed school teams.  They have been true stalwarts of Mourneabbey Ladies Football Club for many years and have worn the Cork jersey at all underage levels, minor, U21 and senior levels.  Their dedication to the sport of ladies football, their work etiquette and commitment is truly admirable.  Roísin, Ciara and Doireann are wonderful ambassadors for Cumann Peil Gael na mBan and are excellent role models for the pupils of our school and parish juvenile clubs.  Heartiest congratulations to the girls and to their jubilant parents Jerry and Ina.  You have brought pride and honour to your primary school, your club and your parish.

Comhgairdeas to all the members of the Cork ladies squad and to their mentors.  We look forward to 2013 and know that they can repeat their winning performance of 2012. – Corcaigh Abú.
