Screenwriter Will Collins is the toast of his native Castlemagner this week after his script for the animated film ‘Song of the Sea’ was nominated for an Oscar. As a nominee, he will travel to Hollywood for the glittering awards ceremony on February 22nd, and will also be in the Californian movie capital on January 31st for the Annie Awards which are given for animation.
The script for ‘Song of the Sea’ took him four years to write, and the film was made by Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon, which received an Oscar nomination in 2010 for ‘The Secret of Kells.’ Voices on ‘Song of the Sea’ came from Lucy O’Connell, David Rawle, Lisa Hannigan, Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, Jon Kenny, Pat Shortt, Liam Hourican and Colm O Snodaigh. The film will be released in Ireland this July.
