Will you run from Darkness into Light on May 10th?

The launch of the Mallow Darkness into Light Walk, which goes ahead on May 10th, took place in the Hibernian Hotel on Monday, with Mayor of Cork County Noel O’Connor doing the honours in the presence of a distinguished gathering including representatives from the business community, Pieta House, Civil Defence, Red Cross, G.A.A., Mallow Search and Rescue, IFA, politicians, school representatives, and many supporters of the work of Pieta House.

Two special guests at the launch were  Cork foot-baller Colm O’Neill and mountaineer Pat Falvey.

The Mallow committee of  Eamonn Horgan, Kathy Kilgallon, Tricia O’Sulli-van, Anne Ronayne and Ger O’Sullivan would like to encourage as many people  as possible from the North Cork and Duhallow region to enrol for the 5k walk on May 10th at 4am. They also requested that organisa-tions encourage their members to support this worthy cause, as one life saved would make all the work and effort worth-while. The walk will start and finish at Mallow College of Further Education. People who wish to take part should enrol online at dil.pieta.ie and go to the Mallow section.

Darkness into Light is the major fundraiser for Pieta House, which is an organisation that provides

a service for those who feel suicidal or contem-plate self-harming. A centre is now established in Cork at Highfield Lawn, Model Farm Road, Bishopstown, telephone 021/4341400, or    e mail mary@pieta.ie

People in the Doneraile area are invited to join the Londis Doneraile 60 Club, whereby 60 people doing the walk raise €50 each in sponsorship, which will collect €3,000 for the cause. For more details, call into Londis Doner-aile.
