Wolfhound Muay Thai Strike Gold at WKO National Championships

The medalists and their team mates at Wolfhound Muay Thai

Wolfhound Muay Thai enjoyed a hugely successful weekend at the WKO Low-Kick Kickboxing National Championships in Limerick, returning home with three gold medals and one bronze.
Five Wolfhound fighters took part in this massive tournament which had over two hundred competitors from more than thirty Irish clubs competing for a chance to win gold and be crowned national champion.
Annabel Venter and her father, Steven Venter, topped the podium in their respective divisions. Completing the treble, Nina Majchrzak impressed with her sharp combinations and relentless pace to take gold in her division.
Jamie Todd fought strongly in a competitive category, winning his quarter-final bout by TKO. He was matched up against the current Irish K1 champion in the semi-final, losing a very close split decision but earning a bronze medal for his efforts. Meanwhile, teammate Curtis Eduardo de Paiva was unfortunate to suffer an injury during his quarter-final bout, which prevented him from advancing further in the competition.
The switch from Muay Thai to Low-Kick Kickboxing presented a test for all five athletes. Unlike Muay Thai, which allows knees and clinching, Low-Kick Kickboxing restricts these techniques and focuses heavily on punching and kicking combinations, with leg kicks playing a major role. Wolfhound’s fighters had to adapt their usual styles and sharpen their boxing and kicking to succeed under the different rule set.
The team’s commitment and preparation in the lead-up to the championships, the hard work on the pads, sparring, and conditioning made the medal success possible.
With three national champions crowned and a bronze medal added to the tally, Wolfhound Muay Thai continues to build momentum and strengthen its reputation as one of Ireland’s best clubs.
Attention now turns to the next wave of competitions at home and abroad, with the team eager to build on this latest success.”
