Young Scientist success for St Mary’s students

Therese Gunning BT Ireland presents the 2nd Junior Group Award in the Biological and Ecological Sciences Category to Alvy Fitzgerald, Anna Duggan and Leah O’Sullivan, St Mary’s Secondary School Mallow, Co Cork for the project ‘An Investigation into the Mathematical Relationship Between Plant Biomass and Leaf Surface Area, as well as the Effects of Simulated Insect Herbivory on Plant Biomass’

St Mary’s Secondary School in Mallow was celebrating last weekend after three of its students won an award at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, which was held at the RDS in Dublin. Competing in the Junior Group section of the Biological and Ecological category, students Anna Duggan, Alvy Fitzgerald and Leah O’Sullivan were named as runners-up in the junior category for their project, ‘An Investigation into the Mathematical Relationship Between Plant Biomass and Leaf Surface Area, as Well as the Effects of Simulated Insect Herbivory on Plant Biomass’. Anna, Alvy and Leah got a great welcome back to school this week, continuing St Mary’s record of success in the Young Scientist Exhibition.
