On a fine misty March morning, 20 pupils from Ardpatrick National School accommpanied by their teachers, officially launched the Ballyhoura Nature Trail at the Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Trails Organised by staff of Ballyhoura Develop-ment, Ballyhoura Failte and Ballyhoura Heritage and Environment students officially launched this wonderful amenity by testing the 45 minute route.
The nature trail runs alongside the mountain bike trails and is a 5km exploration of all the hidden creatures that reside in the woods. A new brochure which marks all the hidden creatures can be ticked off as children traverse across this scenic accessible trail, learning a thing or two about the fauna of the forest.
The pupils left their organisers for dust in the scurry to uncover all the creatures from squirrels to hedgehogs, finding an extra 1 or 2 creatures in addition.
Chairperson Aidan Gleeson was heartened to hear the feedback from the students on their love for the area, the scenery and the mountains and the pride these young students have in their area.
Brochures are available to pick up from the Mountain Bike Centre and can also be downloaded on www.visitballyhoura.com
This is a lovely amenity for young families to get out and get active and keep children engaged on their walks through the forest.
Board and staff would like to extend thanks to Coillte and of course the principal, teachers and students of Ardpatrick National School and Ardpatrick Tidy Towns.
