Davis College Mallow Win Munster Secondary Schools Championship

The Mallow Majestic Pitch and Putt club held its first provincial championship on Friday. Thirty secondary school teams from all over Munster took part.

The conditions were very good for pitch and putt and good scores were expected. Davis College Mallow had 2 teams qualified from the previous week in Claycastle.

Greg Barrett, Roy Whelan and Edward Walsh all experienced players didn’t disappoint posting the first score of the day, a combined total of 24 under par.

This proved to be the best of the day and the club congratulates Davis College on their first victory in this competition. The 3 players are first and second years so more success in the future is a strong possibility. The team also qualify for the Nationals in St. Bridgets, Co. Kildare on the 26th of this month.

Special thanks must go to all who made this occasion such a success. The greenkeepers Noel Ring and Dan Hunt, our Captain Pat Horgan who has spent countless hours feeding sanding and cutting greens over the last few months, James Donovan of the Bruff club for the Marque, all the committee for their efforts on the day and weeks leading up to the competition.

Finally we wish Davis College every success in the Nationals.
