Free parking in Mallow for 3 months

Cork County Council has announced three months of free parking in Mallow, as an initiative to help businesses as they reopen after the COVID-19 lockdown. The decision was made by County Councillors at a recent meeting of the Kanturk-Mallow Municipal District and will apply to on-street parking and all Council-operated carparks in Mallow. Time limits and other restrictions will continue to apply, but there will be no charge. The free period began on Monday, 8th June and will continue throughout June, July and August.
Welcoming the decision, Cllr. Gearóid Murphy (FF) said “This will hopefully give the local economy a much-needed boost after months of hardship. It is of course only one part of what needs to be done to support businesses in Mallow, but an important one in terms of attracting people into the town and sending out the message that we are once again open for business. I would like to acknowledge the work done by my fellow Councillors, County Council officials, Mallow Chamber and other stakeholders in advocating for this change and bringing this about.”
Cllr. Murphy also sugges-ted that the Council use the three month period of free parking to train in the new in-house traffic wardens. “Now is the ideal time to transition to the new system of parking being administered directly by the Council. The new traffic wardens will also act as litter wardens and general ambassadors for the town and I look forward to seeing them on the ground as soon as possible,” he added.
