Ardpatrick teenager Oisín O’Callaghan last weekend claimed Ireland’s first ever gold medal in downhill mountain bike racing when he won the UCI World Championship in Salzburg, Austria.“I don’t think it’s sunk in fully yet, later on I think it will. It’s a bit overwhelming right now,” the popular 5th year student from Scoil Pól in Kilfinane said after his win, though he has had little or no time to dwell on matters, as he has already moved on to Slovenia for two World Cup races, and will then travel to Portugal for two more before the end of October, after which time he will come back to Kilfinane and less hectic life as a student in Scoil Pól.
