Banteer cyclist Dillon Corkery, who won Rás Tailteann last May, took a heavy fall last Sunday and broke his elbow at the European Road Championships at Drenthe in the Netherlands, but despite this he has much to look forward to, because it has since been announced that he has signed for a French UCI Continental team which will see him compete through the 2024 season in the professional peloton.
24-year-old Dillon, who moved to France a few years ago to pursue his dream of becoming a professional cyclist, has developed into a formidable competitor, riding for CC Étupes, and he has represented Ireland in both the Worlds in Scotland, and the Europeans last Sunday.
Next year, Dillon will be part of an almost exclusively French team, Saint-Michel Mavic Auber 93, and will race against ProContinental and World Tour opposition, a major step-up in standard and another rung on the ladder to world-class cycling.
