Scouts hike for Pieta

Tanya, Harry, Holly and Abbie.

Every year, Scout groups from all over the country help out or attend the Darkness into Light event in aid of Pieta House. Unfortunately, this year, due to Covid19, the event had to be cancelled which left a huge shortfall in the finances of that great organisation at a time when their services are in huge demand. Thankfully, many organisations and individuals have done what they can to help out, and the Scouts have certainly played their part. Over the weekend, Scouts of all ages and their friends came together across the entire country to help raise much-needed funds for Pieta House in an event called Hike for Hope. Mallow Scout Group really stepped up, with members from every section taking part. Participants had to hike virtual trails or mountains while staying within their 5km limit. In total the group covered 850kms and climbed 772 flights of stairs which, when you think about it, is twice the entire length of the country. We are truly proud of all the efforts they put in. To date across the entire country the event has raised over €40,500 for Pieta House which is an amazing result. We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who took part, and also to those whose sponsored us for the event. The GoFundMe page will be open until this Friday evening so if you would like to donat,e go to GF.ME/U/XY5FVN or please check out the Mallow Scout Group Facebook page or website where you will find links where you can donate. Thank you.
