Special Olympics This Weekend

The eagerly awaited Special Olympics Ireland take place in Limerick from today Thursday until Sunday June 15th.

Up to 2,000 athletes from all over the country will descend on the Treaty city for the Games.

3,000 volunteers have been busy preparing for what is one of the landmark events in Irish sport.

The opening ceremony will take place today Thursday at the People’s Park. In a departure for the Special Olympics, competitors and

their coaches will take part in a colourful parade through Limerick city commencing at 6pm.

Competitors in different disciplines from north Cork and south Limerick will be taking part in the games at venues throughout Limerick city and county and Clare.
